CD Text vs. Gracenote

Information about the album and the tracks are encoded in the sub- codes. This includes track name, artist, composer and genre. Not all CD Players and computer media players can read CD-Text, for instance Windows Media player and iTunes cannot.

Gracenote is a database that maintains records of the PQ coding of a vast number of albums. Since virtually no albums are alike in terms of track lengths and pauses, software used to rip or play CDs can interrogate the database for information about the Album being played.

Content Partner Program

Gracenote lets content owners manage information about artists and songs by becoming a part of the Content Partner Program. Using Gracenote’s cost-free tools, content owners can directly control the music information entered and displayed into the Gracenote database. Once in the database, Gracenote will be able to recognize the music and link it to a global network of more than 50 retail partners, including ringtone providers and online music stores. Gracenote delivers this information, as well as recommendation and commerce links to leading online media players including Apple's iTunes, Winamp, Nero and Yahoo!
